Important features
Carbon Biaxial 0/90 fabrics are produced using a variety of different fibre types from 6K through to 50K fibres. In standard 0/90 materials the fibres are stitched in equal proportions in the 0º and 90º orientations.
Customers are encouraged to specify their application so that we can modify the stitch structure in order to ensure that the fabrics we manufacture are appropriate for their process.
FORMAX produces a range of "unbalanced" 0/90 fabrics. These fabrics are engineered with a higher fibre weight in one of the axes. This allows composite engineers to optimise laminates with the right balance of stiffness and strength in each orientation.
These types of fabrics are typically used in rectangular panels.
Formax produces a wide range of heavyweight stitched 0/90 carbon fabrics up to 1000gsm, utilising lower cost heavy tow fibres.
These fabrics are typically used in tooling applications where customers need to lay-up very thick laminates in as few plies as possible.
Applications
Important features:
Standard Carbon Biaxial +/-45's are produced with a variety of different fibre types from 6K through to 50K fibre, and up to a maximum width of 1600mm. Weights range from 300gsm through to 1200gsm. Carbon biaxials are used in applications where torsional strength and stiffness is required.
Using the very latest machinery and proprietary fibre spreading techniques, FORMAX is the world leader in producing Ultra Lightweight Carbon Biaxials from 100gsm through to 300gsm.
FORMAX offers +/- 45 Biaxials with ply weights starting from an incredible 50gsm. These materials have exceptional properties, as well as an incredibly smooth surface finish. They enable composite engineers to replace highly expensive 1k and 3k fabrics with far more competitive and versatile 12k options.
Utilising different stitch types FORMAX can influence the drapeability of our +/-45 biaxial fabrics. This enables customers to drape material into complex moulds without the need to cut the fabric. High drape and ultra-high drape versions are available for all of Formax’s +/-45 biaxial fabrics.
Carbon Biaxial +/-30's are produced with a variety of different fibre types from 6K through to 50K fibre, and up to a maximum width of 1600mm. Weights range from 300gsm through to 1200gsm. Carbon biaxials are used in applications where torsional strength and stiffness is required.
